SLINGERLANDS, NY, November 19, 2009 – Sunday, December
13, 2009, Ania Hair Studio & Spa and Philip Alexander
Jewelers will partner to host a Cut-A-Thon & Trunk Show
to benefit the programs and services of New Visions,

jewelry for purchase, provided by Philip Alexander

Visions, based in Slingerlands.
“Ania Hair Studio & Spa and Philip Alexander Jewelers
are so generous to be hosting this event on our behalf,”
says Andrew F. McKenzie, Executive Director of New
Visions. “We offer many unfunded or under-funded
programs and services for people who are affected by
developmental disabilities, and this type of community
fundraiser goes a long way toward helping us fill the
funding gaps so that we can reach out to more people. We
sincerely appreciate their efforts, especially at this
time of year when we have so many people who need the
services and opportunities we provide.”
McKenzie says both Ania Hair Studio & Spa and Philip
Alexander Jewelers have been generous supporters of New
Visions for the past couple of years, participating as
sponsors of the organization’s yearly Springfest Gala &
Benefit Auction fundraiser, held every June. The
Cut-A-Thon is an event held at the Ania Hair Studio &
Spa in the fall and spring, each time with proceeds sent
to local not-for-profit organizations. Past benefit
events have been hosted on behalf of juvenile diabetes
and cancer research.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST – ANIA HAIR STUDIO HOSTS FUNDRAISER
TO PREVENT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
ALBANY, NY – Domestic violence often goes undetected
until it’s too late, and Ania Bickham, owner of Ania
Hair Studio and Spa, and her staff know first hand its
devastating effects. Since losing one of her stylists in
a tragic murder-suicide in 2004, Bickham is committed to
increasing awareness about the prevention of domestic
violence.
On Friday, May 15th, Ania Hair Studio and Spa is hosting
a fundraiser for the Liza Warner Scholarship, in honor
of a stylist who was tragically shot and murdered by her
husband, who then turned the gun on himself.
“She was really well-liked here in the spa,” Bickham
said. “One of the problems with domestic abuse is that
dangerous behavior can be misinterpreted as someone
being ‘protective’ or ‘devoted’ by those close to the
victim. We hope that this event will help turn a tragedy
into something positive while helping shed some light on
this type of abuse.”
The event takes place near Warner’s birthday to remember
and commemorate her commitment and passion to the
industry. The scholarship fund was established to help
students in the hair design field who are dedicated but
lack the means to pay for their educations. Since the
fund’s establishment in 2007, two students have been
awarded scholarships.
The Liza Warner Scholarship Fundraiser will take place
at Ania Hair Studio and Spa from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday,
May 15; the proceeds from any services booked during
this time will benefit the Scholarship. Anyone
interested in participating in this meaningful event can
call Ania Hair Studio and Spa at 456-8822 or visit
www.aniahairstudo.com.
Ania Hair Studio and Spa, located at Town Center, 1704

new look from one of our stylists will inspire people to
be more confident, and land a new job.”
